"Chirping"/squealing blower fan (archive)

I recently started hearing a very annoying chirping/squealing coming from somewhere in the center of the dash on my 1988 735i when the blower is running. At slow fan speeds it is more of a chirp and at moderate speeds the sound speeds up until it is more of a squeal. The sound is not continuous at this time and when it does occur, adjusting the speed of the blower will often make it go away temporarily. I'd like to get to the bottom of this before it does become a constant problem. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I've searched the forum under "fan noise" and "blower noise" but did not come up with anything.
