and depending how loose things are, the impellers could be rubbing on the blower housing.

The blower motor is accessed from the engine compartment. Ref. Bentley's pg. 640-1 & 2. Remove the coolant accumulator tank, and there's a panel about 6" x 24" bolted to the firewall. With this panel removed, the blower motor is exposed. Grab one of the squirrel cage impellers & give the shaft a wiggle. If it's real sloppy, you may need a new blower motor (comes with impellers), about $100 to $125 if I recall, from the typical discount mail order parts suppliers.

If it's not too loose, put a few drops of light weight oil on the "oilite" bushings, being careful not to soak the brushes. This may get it thru the winter. An annual lubing might get many more years out of it if it's just now starting to squeak.

If one is reasonably skilled & patient & has a lathe, new bushings can be fitted, but it's really not worth the time & trouble. The Behr units are not designed with disassembly in mind & you'd probably have to re-visit the problem again.

Greetings

I recently started hearing a very annoying chirping/squealing coming from somewhere in the center of the dash on my 1988 735i when the blower is running. At slow fan speeds it is more of a chirp and at moderate speeds the sound speeds up until it is more of a squeal. The sound is not continuous at this time and when it does occur, adjusting the speed of the blower will often make it go away temporarily. I'd like to get to the bottom of this before it does become a constant problem. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I've searched the forum under "fan noise" and "blower noise" but did not come up with anything.

Thanks!
