Hello there,

My low beams became very weak and I have to change them in order to pass the TI.

I bought two new Hella reflectors and managed to replace (e32 740) one on the right side by:
-removing the air filter box (unscrew two shrubs)
-removing the plastic cover--which covers the access to the lights (unscrew two clips).
-disconnecting the low beam (yellow) connector and unscrewing 3 shrubs which hold the reflector.

But I cannot do the same with the left side, there is no space because of the brake cylinder.
I plan to remove the front bumper and mask in order to remove the whole lights assembly.

Now I'm stuck with front bumper removal (it's not like e34 or e36).

Anyone there knows how to remove the front bumper?

Or is there any other way to replace the left low beam reflector?

Thank you in advance for you help!!!
Jerry

P.S. To my surprise low beam reflectors on e32, e34 and late e30 models are the same, part number 63 121 390 270.

There are 2 options here... replacing the reflector unit, or replacing the "cluster" of both the High, Low beams plus mounting bracket, aiming screws, etc.

In either case, you need to start by removing the grille trim around the headlamps. This is done by removing 3 split-rivet fasteners (back out the phillips-headed plastic screw in the center until they ALMOST come out, then tug on the head of the Phillips screw). The fasteners are located along the top edge of the trim. Two of the screw heads are reached from the FRONT of the car, the third is accessed from the TOP. When the fasteners are removed, the trim piece tips forward and unclips from the bottom.

OK if you are just replacing the glass cover and bowl (reflector), Bentley says you can heat up 3 grommets that hold the assembly to the mounting ball studs with a heat gun (hair dryer). I'd recommend disconnecting the electrical connector first, and removing the bulb.

If you are replacing the entire assembly, there are 3 Phillips-headed screws to remove from the FRONT of the cluster (above each reflector, and at the lower, inside corner). There are also 3 screws to remove from INSIDE the engine compartment, all at the outside edge of the assembly. The topmost one is slightly outboard and down from the white headlight adjuster screw, I could only find it by feel, but it is there! Be careful not to lose these screws when taking 'em out.

Hope this helps!
