If ASC reduces power to the engine when wheel slippage occurs...and LSD reduces power to a rear wheel that is slipping and transfers power to the wheel with traction...then does anyone have suggestions as to when ASC should be turned off? I have heard of one...when trying to ascend an icey hill, ASC can reduce power so much that the engine is not producing enough power to propel the car forward and it's better to turn it off and let the wheels spin...thus letting the LSD do what it does best. (but this is extreme...because if it's real icey...there is no traction to be had anyway unless you have studs or spikes or some of James Bond's accoutrements). Can anyone think of other situations?
Q
ASC reduces power till slippage stops. However without LSD this will occur sooner than with LSD as only one wheel (in corners) is providing traction...so logically with both wheels driving ASC won;t need to happen...where I get lost is that in order for LSD to work sllippage must occur where one wheel is going at a speed 20% different than the other and this can;t happen as ASC would fire up...on balance you're probably right to be confused, it's just a way BMW screwed money out of people I guess. However remember that you can turn ASC off and have real fun using only the LSD (diff not drugs ...)
