It is a bit of a reverse the way you put, isn't it?
But if you realy want to know when to switch it off you'd simply need to consider situations that you want the wheels to slip as you already indicated.
If you have a look at most types of car racing it would be obvious. Whenever you go through a corner and want to put the rear wheels 'behind' the the front wheels, then the ASC would be a pain.
I don't think to many people would like to create such a situation with the 1.5 ton 7 series too often, but BMW gives you the oppertunity if you want to.Have fun, but check that you have the space:)
