1. Check it cold 2.try to add some water and cycle a couple times i. e. get it to operating temp then let it cool down that should let you get a couple of readings 3. should be a drain at the bottom of radiator. that's about all the info i have till santa brings me my bentley manual
Can someone at least point me in the right direction?

My father recently got a '94 740i that had previously been driven only in Louisiana. The car is now going to be driven in Wisconsin with substantially colder winters. We were unsure of the mixture of the coolant so my father got out his coolant tester(with the floating disks) and checked the coolant at the reservoir in the rear of the engine compartment. It only looks to be good to -10F. This is probably OK but my father wants to make it safe to at least -30F.

Questions:

1. Is there someplace else to check the coolant from, such as a cap to check directly from the radiator? I don't see any other place in the owners manual.

2. When he checks the level in the reservoir he is only able to get about one check using the tool and then he is not able to reach down far enough in the reservoir to get more coolant and check again, is this normal? We are on a relatively level surface.

3. Should we be checking the coolant level when the car is warm or cold?

4. Is there a drain or something so that we can take some of the coolant out and increase the ratio of coolant to water by putting in pure coolant?

Thanks in advance!
Jeff
