It probably wears the seals. If your power steering fluid tank say you should use pentosin 7.1 only, do not use anything else. It may cause some damage, e.g. to the seals. 7.1 is quite different than 11. be cautious.

A proir post was explaining the differences, I seem to recall it being mentioned for the 89 750il w/ leveling, type 7, but not sure. Type eleven (11) wears out the seals?
