I've got a '90 735i with the stock pioneer head unit. While the car is prewired for a changer (like the CDXM30) I dont want to get one of those. The fact that it can direct connect to the head unit is a plus, but I don't wanna pay for old technology, and a unit that cannot be used in another car. This leaves me with no choice, I have to go with RF modulated. The rest of the system is totally stock. A new headunit and or other system mods are not a possibilty.

Who here has an RF modulated CD changer? I was thinking about either the Alpine CHMS655RF (6 disc) or the Sony CDX530RF (10 disc). They are in the $250 range. Any other brands/models I should consider.

Other considerations:

Pioneer CDX-FM657 (6 disc)
Blaupunkt CDCRF6ir (6-disc) this one is $300, but has a red display

How is the qualiy of RF modulated?

sorry for the lengthy post

thanks,

HA

1.) Since the RF Mod changers are intended as add-on, you won't get the integration with the radio display/controls. I find this irksome.
2.) CD on an RF Mod won't (can't) sound any better than FM stereo... your ears will tell you if this is an issue in your car. My hearing sucks, I can tell the difference.
3.) If you're willing to part with $300, Aiwa has a pretty cool CD/CDRW head unit. Cool part is that it can read MP3 disks, so you can get about 10 hours on a single disk in your dash. Downside is that you have to rip/encode/record or download the tracks you want and burn a CD.
4.) For about $350 I got a GREAT deal on Blaupunkt CD head unit and changer from Crutchfield... system works great, looks great.

Recommend passing on the RF Modulated changers. Personal preference.
