I've heard of this with the Flex Fans that you can buy at most auto part stores. It doesn't use a clutch but the fins of the fan bend a little at higher rpms to regulate the flow of air. If you do that with a stock fan though, you may run the risk of overcooling. This may of course change the fuel consumption and mixture. That may effect your catalytic converter, etc.. In other words, I don't think it's a good idea.

I am having problems with the fun clutch as can be stopped even with a hot engine resulting in some increase in temperature when driving in the city. Did anybody tried to make the clutch bypassed, in other words that the fan is always conected to belt speed? As I live in a warm area, the cold start is not a problem.
Will appreciate any comment on this subject
