You could also run the risk of over-speeding the fan at RPMS that it wasn't designed for and so heading for losing a blade etc.

I have no idea how strong the plastic part is, but when it's going to hit several thousand RPM higher than the clutch ever alloed it to, then balance would become critical (esp in a plastic part) and any vibration would cause material fatigue/aging pretty quick (at the blade root).

Personally I'd look into a thermostatic electric add-on than mess with something that could fail catastrophically. Just my 2c worth.
