I also have a 1991 735iL. My sunshade hasn't retracted in years. Not to be smart, but I fixed it by simply not pulling it out. The first time that it took me 10 minutes to retract it with my fingers by pushing in about a half inch at a time I was over it. I never used it anyway, so I figured why bother with dropping money on it when I could use that cash towards mechanical issues versus cosmetic ones. By the way, this is a great message board and I appreciate everyones contributions.
When I got my car, the sunshade was screwed up. I called Bimmerworld and got a whole parcel shelf for around $50+shipping. You have to go through a lot of hell to install it but it's a lot cheaper than the $400.00 the dealer's talking about. Now that I think about it, even if you fix yourself, you have to do the same labor to take out the parcel shelf to fix the sunshade. Good luck!!Isiah

First of all, thanks to all who contribute to answering the questions posted here. A great source of information!
The rear window sunshade on my wife's car worked fine when we got it, but now won't retract. I'm sure it's something simple like a broken spring or similar problem with the rewind mechanism. The dealer quoted over $400.00 U.S. to fix... Anybody had any experience with this problem? Thanks again for the help/suggestions.
