Hi Peter,

At first glance you have already determined what the problem is. By swapping tire/wheels sets between the two cars and the fault following one of the sets, gives you an answer. There is something wrong with the "problem" set which was transferred and is now causing the other car to have vibration. Which set belonged to which car originally so we can keep things straight? And did you make sure the fronts stayed up front on the other car and the same for the rears? You can still have a perfectly balanced set of wheels and tires and still have the tires out of round. I will email you a full explanation of how this can be if you so desire. Unless you have hit something hard enough to damage the wheels I would say those would be fine and you are dealing with a tire issue. If you decide to replace the Uniroyals, have someone check the axial and radial runout of your wheels before the new tires go on. This will tell you how true your wheels are. In an extreme case a non concentric wheel will force a normally round tire to become non concentric also but again this is very rare and I'm just trying to list all the variables.

I've been having pretty severe shimmy/vibration with set of 16" chrome factory wheels with 225/60/16 Uniroyal tiger paw tires. Vibration is worst in morning and on hard turns. Mechanic has done alignment and changed bushings. He has also checked rims and tires- all are ok. In frustration, swapped sets between my 750 and my 735; the trouble was transfered to the other car which was previously running smooth. What the h#@? is going on? Mechanic says best bet is to just by a set of oem rims and tires (opinion shared by two shops. Any advice would be appreciated.
