Keep in mind if it is an internal problem and your tranny was made prior to 92 it would be wise to change it to a newer or rebuilt (with pressure hole) model.** See Below ** Rebuilds or late model used trannys are often available at lower cost than rebuilding! You then get a repair that is longer lasting.

We'll all hope that it is a simple seal fix, but if not, consider your options very carefully. A minimal rebuild by an inexperienced shop can cost labor $$$ you may soon be doing again.

** Many pre-91 (?) automatics have difficulty dispersing pressure spent while idling or in park. Minimize the times in these modes to prevent early clutch pack failures. If you are undergoing a rebuild of a 91-earlier auto, have the mod performed to allow the pressure release. Search the archives for more details.
