The one in my '91 E32 is manual. I did find a link that you may be interested in. I was looking for some parts and ran across a brand new (still in the box) electric rear shade for an E32. They are asking $299 (I think) and could probably tell you whether the back deck is diff or not.

I would love to retrofit a rear shade to my 91 E32, is the rear shelf any different in the shade models? Are they available in manual or electric?
