Sounds like you've got heater core troubles - the E32 seems to have a reputation for leaks/failures in this area, and your comments about steamy windows etc would suggest this is your problem... have a look at the link below, as well as check the archive.

If this is your problem, it's only going to get worse (leak and interior damage) so I personally wouldn't suggest any further driving... (I'm almost tempted - living in a mild climate - to isolate the heater core the other side of the firewall, leave it dry and survive on AC heat, before this heater thing happens to me...)
