regular production because it is way too expensive, even for the new 7.

The powerplant was developed exclusively for the MCClaren (spell?) F1, whose cost was about $1M. BMW retained the rights and when the F1 went out of production they used it in the LMRs to win LeMans. I've read somewhere that it costs over $250K to produce each powerplant, so there is no way it will make it to regular production.

The X5 LeMans was described in some mag (I forget which) as a rolling power play!!!
