Sergio,
Heed Alex's advice and check all the basic stuff
first.
1. Check fluid level..does fluid look/smell burnt?
Remember fluid is a cooling medium and if level
is low..a possible root cause.
2. Report to the board your coolant
temperature. Is the needle straight up in
traffic?
3. Clean connections with the computer in three
places:
i. Manual/automatic switch next to trans select
lever...pry off wood consile trim.
ii. Trans select switch under the wood trim
on the center consile...tells the computer
what gear you are in.
iii. Under the car is a 1.5" dia port connector
that connects the trans to the computer.
Unscrew this and clean.

I still believe your problem is cooling. Keep in
mind the ZF-HP-22 can be an unforgiving trans.
Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance.
Not a bad idea to change fluid and filter every
20-30K. Of course never rev the engine in park
or neutral after driving....could and I reinforce
could cause premature A-clutch pack failure.

Since the same thing is happening with a new
trans, I would tend to believe that the problem
is the interface with your trans not the trans
itself....after cleaning all the connections, if
things don't improve, blow out the trans lines
leading into the radiator....if the rad cannot
be unplugged,of course replace it.

As an absolute last resort...the dealer. I am the last guy to endorse taking your car to the dealer but the dealer has a very high-tech diagnostic machine for the ZF-HP-22 that can differentiate computer versus mechanical failure.
Call to get a diagnostic fee quote before you
take your car in. If you get a diagnosis that
confirms the trans is mechanically bad, you can
use this as recourse to negotiate with the guy
that replaced your trans.

I think you will have good success with the above.

735i Automatic HP22,
After sitting in traffic seems like my tranny acts up
and starts up in 3rd gear. it only happens when car is idling for a very long time and tranny gets very hot.
I usally have to let it cool down and then all the gears work fine. I've already replaced tranny and just recently it started doing it again. could this be a computer prob.??
