The absolute first thing I would check is the fuel pump relays located on passenger side auxillary fuse/relay box (under hood, also contains DME relays). Could be that the relay is misbehaving when warm. Try switching the relays side to side and see if the problem switches banks.

My 1988 750il occasionally starts on only 6-cylinders. The condition occurs primarily on a warm restart (after the car has been sitting for 10-min to 1-hour). It runs on 6 for 2-4 minutes at which time the remaining 6 cylinders come online and all is normal. I have not had a chance to diagnose which bank is at fault, nor whether it is an ignition (my guess) or fuel related problem. The problem never occurs on a cold start. Has anyone on the list experianced similar problems? Anyone wish to offer an opinion regarding the cause?

Thanks in advance,

Bill N.

Yes............. my '88 750 behaved in a similar way for a while and the problem was solved by replacing BOTH relays for the power to each injector bank. BTW........this fault was correctly and immediately located within a couple of minutes via the workshop (dealer) computer.
