The E32 750i and 750iL are artificially limited to 155 mph; however, BMW's own literature and others such as Dinan claim that the 88-91 cars have an unlimited top speed of around 180 mph. That always appear high to me given the car's weight and power, but... Those cars had the 3:15 diff. The 92-94 cars had the 3:64 diff and while quicker, their unlimited top speed was supossed to be "only" 160 mph.

My 1989 U.S. E32 750iL was a European delivery. After proper break-in, I drove it between Rosenheim and Munich and touched 158 mph a couple of times (we drove at dawn to avoid traffic).
