You have to remove the rear seat bottom cushion to access the battery. If you have electric rear seats this job is a real pain (search the archives for detailed removal/installation instructions). If you do not have electric rear seats, just pull up on the bottom cushion at each side of the car, approximately in the middle of each seat, and the cushion will pop up.

Trying to find info on replacing the battery on my mom's 1992 735iL. The dealer wants $145 for the battery - says it's got a vent hole not on regular batteries. Is this really necessary? How about a Diehard battery (size?)?
Also, how do you get to it under the back seat? I'm not familiar with BMW's.
