PS - what sustained speeds do W and Y stand for??? I had never seen them (usually just Z)until I got the last two sets of Conti's
The German versions (I had two 750i and one 750iL)
will reach about 155mph which corresponds to 250 kmh. All German manufacturers excluding Porsche and Alpina and tuners like Hartge Schnitzer have agreed on the 250kmh limit.
I have done it plenty of times without any problems. If I rember correctly the fuel flow will be reduced. The electrinics can be modified and the car would be about 10mls faster. Thats it. 220kw simply don#t get you any faster. BTW the speed limit control on the OBC is more accurate than than the speedo. When I am at top speed with respect to RPM and limt set to 25o kmh the speedo shows about 262kmh. The speeds stated can IMHO not be reached. Also they are suicidal with the type of tires used in the USA. Even the required W-rated tires in Germany are only good for 270kmh. So doing 270kmh, if at all possible, with V-rated tires on a hot day in Texas is like walking across a field with AP mines in the dark. I have lost parts from Dunlop D 40 tires on the Autobahn doing about 250 kmh at about 100°F. Scared me quite bit and made me buy a new set of tires the next day.
Enjoy driving one of the ultimate machines and have a happy 2001. Ekkehart
