Yes it has, but my 1992 owner manual also states that it is not governed in any way from top speed.
It was chipped before my purchase. I have been told they were Dinan, but have not insopected to see myself. I have friends with 750iL's that have reached 165 and 170MPH without chips.

Has your car been "chipped"? I assume this disables the speed limiter and may increase top speed.

A short time after buying the 750iL, I attempted top speed, but ran out of wide open highway in Texas. I managed 170MPH and still climbing when I had to shut it down. My fiance' claims she hit 180MPH and at redline. I went on a trip down country roads at 130MPH while the kids slept in the back seat for about an hour.

These are really amazing cars.
