89 735iL interior light problems (archive)

Just bought my wife a 89 735iL for xmas which she really loves. The car is in really great shape and looks almost new inside. I am having a few problems with the interior lights that I hope someone may have some insight on.

Currently the interior lights don't work at all, no matter what setting the switches are on (including the map lights). If the switches are set just right, a message about the Trunk Lid Open appears.

A little background: Shortly after we bought the car, after shutting off the car and getting out, the interior lights would only dim down and the reverse lights would dimly stay on. I got this to stop by turning the interior light switches to the off position. This recently happened to the dealer as the car was in to get some things fixed and it drained the battery. They supposedly fixed it but I am not sure what they did.

The car goes in again on Wednesday and thought if I could give them some ideas they may be able to fix it so it all works properly. It is not a BMW dealer but the dealer whom I bought the car through and they have been real nice in paying for the fixes so far.

By the way, I looked at the fuses and they all appear ok.
