Hello all,
I'm looking to buy a 735i 5-speed, and currently have leads on 2 cars, a '88 and a '90. My mechanic (I currently own a 6-series) told me to stay away from the '88. However, the person that has the '88 in question has replaced a lot of items and seems to be a maintenence freak. The '90 owner seems to know diddly about cars.
Are there any 'gotchas' on the 88 that I should look for? Any gotchas in general regardless of year? I really appreciate any advice that you grizzled 7-series owners can give. I've thoroughly enjoyed my 635 - and can take some consolation in knowing that I'll have the same great 3.5 liter engine in my new 7.
Happy New Year to all,
Troy
Troy,
I own a 635 and bought a 750 about 1 yr ago. Mine is a 90 model with about 150000 miles on it. From what I have learned, in late 89 they made a few changes to the engine, including the oil filter and oil cooler, but the big changes were supposed to be in the electronics and wiring. Parts for these cars can be expensive, but as you probably know, most problems involve repairs not replacements. I would rather buy the well maintained car.
Good Luck
