FWIW, at this point I'd take it to the dealer and have the power steering and maybe the transmission flushed and refilled. I'm sure you realize you could be spending a few thousand $ here really soon.
Pentosin is almost clear, and the canister probably holds only half of what's in the system. It would only take a little Dexron to turn it red. So that is not surprising.

The transmission is weird. I doubt they are related. Won't go into lockup or won't go into 4th? 3,500 sounds like 4th. And I think the lockup part is electrically controlled. Either way I'd take it straight to the dealer. But your transmission can quickly overheat at high speed if not in lockup. I replaced a Blazer transmission for that reason.
Good luck.

I siphoned out the old fluid out of my 90 750iL. It was red in color and I think was actually Dexron III. The canister is clearly labeled Pentosin CH7.1. I got every drop out possible and filled canister with appx 1.8 liters of green CH7.1. Here's the bitch, I drove about 250 miles at highway speeds and did some family visiting. Got in the car to drive home and now the tranny won't go into lockup. 80mph is 3500rpm. 250 miles like this. Checked fluid levels today. I serviced (fluid and filter change) the trans about 7k ago and the fluid's still fine. THIS IS WHAT GOT ME...the power steering fluid is as red as ever. I realize there was fluid in the ps pump, brake booster and LAD's but I didn't expect it to discolor my green. I guess I'm trying to relate the transmision problem to my power steering. Any suggestions????????
