I just want to clarify the problem a bit. Do you loss Power Steering at all speeds or only at low speeds?? Does the car have somewhat normal steering at highway speeds?

If the problem occurs only at low speeds it may be an electronic problem with the Servotronic module or one of the connections between the module and the Steering Box. A quick check is to disconnect the 2 wires on the bottom of the steering box and measure the voltage there with the engine at idle. It should be around 11 - 12 volts DC across the 2 pins. If this is not present you have an electrical problem. If problem is intermittent, then it may just be that the pins require cleaning. On my car, one of the wires was actually broken and that caused the intermitent.

Hope this helps.

My 88 750iL 82000km is having this steering problem. The steering very often went to this mode where it has no powersteering! Then when turn off and restart, everything seems to be okay... and it will only last for about 10 mins or so and then it is back to the same old problem! Lately it is more and more often! What is the cause anyone have any idea? It is because it is a intermmediate problem and it had my local manchanic iffy on what to do next! So... if you have had the same problem before, your kind input will be much appriciated! Thank you very much in advance! Happy New Year!
