I live in DC too - MD suburb. I found a great 88 with lots of work already done, and owned and maintained by an anal engineer (best car owners, IMHO). I figure that by 139k most of the electrical gremlins should already be taken care of, and am looking to get my hands on it soon.

I purchased a 88 735i 5sp 2 year ago for $3700.00 It needed the rear bushings and the gas gauge did not work right (had motherboard worked on by guy in Indiana). Biggest problem was a battery drain. Dealer found wrong main relay in car allowing electicals to stay on all the time. I just put new Bilstein HD's and a clutch. Great car. It has 148,000 miles. I live in D.C area and have a friend who has one also no big electrical problems either. Just my two cents
