Best thought from here is to take the door apart and watch the thing. Misalignment of the tracks could be causing the window to skew coming down (and so drag) but not going up (as it's going more up into the fixed door track... which can't change alignment...)

It's only a simple winder mechanism adapted from a normal "turn the handle" job, not a Japanese "where's that [email protected]! steel rope gone now!" cable based job. Good luck. Search the archives for getting into the drivers door - I know I posted one about 2 months ago for someone. Big hint for the tracks is to have a good set of largish Torx driver bits available and to CAREDULLY remove the sealing rubber on the door (along by the lock "notch") - the screws are concealed behind the rubber....
