750 vs 740 auto trans differences 4sp v 5? (archive)

Can anyone explain the difference between the auto transmissions? I understand that the 750 has a four speed but the 740 has a 5 spd - which I would presume to be suprerior? Anyway, my 750 has some kind of glitch as it leaves 1st gear - seems to hang up and the roughly grab second gear?
