A/C Clutch Not Engaging (archive)

I am having a problem with the A/C on my 89 750. The clutch on the compressor is not turning when I push the compressor button. I have looked at the sight glass and there is freon in the system my mechanic replaced the expansion valve because of a leak and he said that their is no other leaks. Any ideas?
