Search the archives, keywords: "stepper motor", lots of good info. Many of them can be reached by removing radio & obc & glove box. Others are a much more difficult to access. Also, much info on e34, e39, & e38 boards.

Here's a link on how to get to ones which require removing the heater core, without having to remove the dash if you read down to the part where he had to do it a second time.
