I just rewired my entire stereo system on my 88 735i. I traced the wires from the head unit back to the rear amp with a multimeter. Then, I traced all the wires from the amp to the speakers themselves. I replaced the head unit, the factory amp and all speakers except for the 2in dash speakers with aftermarket products. The Bentley manual has all the wiring schematics for the original radio system. If you don't have a Bentley manual I can scan you a copy of the radio wiring page from mine and send it to you. Just let me know if you want it,
