Is there anything I've missed???
What it really comes down to is: What does a reconditioned 735i feel like after I've done everything listed above???
I should also mention that I'm not looking for a road rocket. I just want an asthetically pleasing car that I can depend on, feel comfortable in for hours and hours, and upgrade as I please.
Thanks again,
-Adam
I bought my 88 735i in 1993 for $14k. It had 90k miles on it. It currently has 152k on it. The following is most of what been replaced since I've had the car;
Brakes (3 times)
Rear muffler (3 times)(Don't buy Ansa)
Shocks
Radiator
Engine computer
A/C (evaporator, expansion valve)
Blower resistor
Wiper motor
Rear main subframe bushing
Catalytic convertor
Light control module
Water pump (twice)
Electronic steering relay
Door lock & seat control module
Cable adjustment to seatbacks
Cable adjustment to headrests
Radio
Complete front end
Distributor cap & rotor
Valve adjustment (three times)
Well, that's most of what I remember. You're estimates on the work are a bit high. Shop around for the best deals through the back of the ROUNDEL and online. Example; Front end parts are very competitive online, especially on Ebay. Mufflers aren't bad. Cat convertor cost be $275 rebuilt. Brakes are real cheap online.
My car has Bilsteins with original springs and E39 16" sport wheels. The 16" wheels really make a difference in the steering and help the looks. The car rides great and easily cruises at 80mph. I've got a problem with the A/C center vent not opening regularly which is a major fix to the A/C box under the dash and I think it finally needs a fuel pump (occasional cutting off) but I don't feel the repairs have been excessive for the returns the car has given. The old girl is ready for a paint job now but there's no more car payment so the moneys there for that. Good car.
