Help! Can't get ball-joint loose. (archive)

I'm trying to replace the upper control arms, but can't get the ball-joint loose. I've tried hitting where it goes through the mount with a hammer and tried a ball-joint separater fork without any luck. What's the next step? Would heating it with a torch help?
