The headlamp system is only installed on vehicles fitted with factory xenon headlamps. European laws require the self-leveling system on xenon equiped vehicles.


A while ago I posted about a "pump" thing under the front r/h fender. Here's the schematic of the system fitted to (according to BMW UK) to 90% of E32's prior to Sept '90, after which it was deleted. This system is why it's so difficult to adjust the lamps manually.

This system always fails (so I'm told) at about 40K miles or less as the drop arm wears its ball joints (plastic) and falls off. Then lack of use ensures everything else seizes.

Any comments welcome, when I asked about this no-one else could find their system...
