That is why a "U" joint is suggested. With a u-joint you can 'point the socket in any direction, prior to engaging the nut, just by turning the extension slightly. With a wobble, it always points down. Glad you got it done...you have now completed the easy part.

Thanks everyone. Took me a little of three hours to get the intake manifolds off, but I did it. Even had a AES master mechanic stop by and scratch his head so that's when I went to the E32 board. With a 1/4 and a u-joint (wobbly joint) and following everyone's advice it happened.

You'll love this one. I just could not get the socket to lift up on to the bottom nuts of the intake manifold nuts in the middle and I had given up. Went inside and sat down to watch TV and saw a monkey shoving a long stick in a hole and pulling termites out biting the stick. I jump up and yelled, "that's it!" Went back into the shop, took out a long welding rod, shoved it under the intake manifolds from the front of the engine to each nut and lifted the socket up onto the nut. A twist of the ratchet and off they came.

Hay, you can learn a lot from a monkey.

Dave
