O.K. Almost all who have put the larger rims with lower profile tires wants to lower at least the front or maybe rear also. Now, what are the possible problems by going with a larger diameter tire. Maybe a 18x8 with 245/50/18.
Obviously the speedo would be off. Other problems??? Maybe ABS OR ASC problems??? Shouldn't be.
It seems to me the larger tire would help fill the wheel openning. Granted the improvement to handling might not be increased as much. But you would have the greater side wall cushion vs. the 35/40 profile to provide better ride comfort.
Am I missing something?
My car drives great now with the stock 225/60/15. If I did the math right that's about a 5.2" side wall. The 245/50/18 should have about 4.82" sidewall and an overall diameter of about 27.6" (I know these #'s are probably off, I'm estimating a lot). With the 18" rims I'm sure you would still reap plenty of handling benefits. And the approx. 2" increase in dia. could compensate for 1" of lowering.
This is just something I've been thinking about.
What do you guys know/think? (Someone please check the math!)

p.s. I'm still shopping for 18" rims, I just spent $2k at the stealer.
