The BMW lamps have silver bases rather than nickel bases used on parts store lamps. This effects the resistance in the circuit and can cause erroneous messages. Buy some lamps from the local BMW stealer. Also, before installing the new lamps, check the contacts on the lamp holders for arcing marks and clean with fine emery if necessary. In the past I have had brake light warning messages from both non-BMW lamps and arcing across the lamp socket.

93-740i "One brake light" (failure?)message displayed.
Both bulbs working fine, but one looks a bit darkened on visual inspection.
Both bulbs replaced with local ones(not BMW)and the message does not disappear.
Where is the problem? Any idea? Thanks.

Andrzej
