The ticking is more than likely the fuel injectors. This is perfectly normal. To localise the source of the ticking, place one end of a long socket extension against one of the fuel injectors and the other end against your ear. You will hear rapid ticking noises which increase with engine speed. The other source of engine ticking is valve train noise but this should not be true in your case as the valves were adjusted recently.Alex Lynch
i hear a ticking noise coming from around the intake manifold when my car is running. when i asked my local european mechanic, i was told that this is
normal due to the fact that the M30 motor had mechanical lifters as opposed to hydrolic ones. this still doesn't seem right to me. (the ticking is pretty
noticable). i have had a valve adjustment done 7 or 8 thousand miles ago, so it shouldn't be the valves.
any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated!!!
