On the same note you might also make sure all air is bled from the coolant system.

My '89 750il runs at just above 1/2 on guage even in 110 degree weather - EXCEPT when stopped and idling in hot weather. Then temperature climbs up to RED ZONE! The sensors and fans are working, thermostat replaced, cooling system has been flushed. It seems to need more air circulating under the hood (I know there isn't much room there). Need to fix before summer. Any suggestions?? Will appreciate any help. Thanks- George

Sounds like you've got a coolant flow problem not air flow problem. Get the car to operating temperature and check, by carefully touching, both the intake and exit radiator hoses. I bet the lower hose on the passenger side is fairly cool to the touch. A common problem on early BMW waterpumps is for the impeller backing plate to separate and it basically stops sending the coolant through the system. It won't necessarily leak coolant, it just stops pumping it through.
