Over the last few months I've had a few lights fail to work but afetr some time this has corrected it self. Does this sound like a problem with the ominous mustard colured relay???

Specifically: temperature dial on driver's side AC, centre inside light upon lifting door handle, and a message that says "SIDE LIGHT".

Oi!! How's things Peter?,
The side light message is a typical symptom of the relay but I don't think the others that you mentioned are.
I've been to that mountain also (side light)- didn't replace the mustard relay - just resoldered it.
