Wouldn't that be the pressure regulator? Rather than the pump? I'm not familiar with what the steering gear or booster does when it goes bad.

I hava a 92 735i 87k--- I got it 2 monthes ago--- the steering had a tick or a regular vibration at slow speeds( almost feels as though the pump belt was loose). seemed to be a direct relation to engine speed and dissapeared the faster the engine went. I went to a shop in san diego with a good reputation.

A new steering pump,, then a new pump hose( egads an exp hose) now its a bit better and now the shop says it needs a steering gear. to get this vibration out of the wheel.

???? today the tick was completly gone and the wheel turned easily without effort for a short time( all while stopped)for
a few minutes. then I went on the road and when I came to the next stop the tick and resistance was back. Any help would be appriciated--- Irratates me to have troubleshoot as well as pay -- thanks
