He does not work on his own cars at all, but he does have another friend who I understand is a very good BMW mechanic. He and his wife (whose car it will be) are very enthusiastic about the car. I must admit, it does make me a tad nervous thinking about it. There are scary possibilities. No matter how well I explain things, if something (or several things!!) big breaks in the near future, it could cause ill feelings.
I am sure that I have positive pressure in my crankcase. If the cap is loose while the engine is running, it rattles around like the top of a boiling tea pot. When it is first loosened (when the engine has just been shut off) you can hear the pressure relieve. I will be bringing it in tomorrow to be repaired. He will clean the oil off where it has leaked, and we will watch for a few days to see if continues to leak. If it does, oh well, I am back getting that repaired as well.

A few years ago a friend was selling his 750 and I wanted to buy it and he wouldn't sell it to me. Now I understand why, and I'm sure you do, too. I would've been sure it was a lemon.
As to your question, I believe that, if you take off the oil fill cap it will have positive pressure if the pcv's are plugged, but should have negative or no pressure. Mine leaked oil out the fill cap under pressure, but never came out a gasket, but I suppose it could happen. But check the cap pressure.
