how many miles does it take to be a high mileage car? after seeing a post about buying a "high mileage" car i was wondering what kind of miles others had on there cars. mine is an 88 735i with 237,000. this motor still runs like a new one. doesn't use a drop of oil. the oil is also as clean as the day you put it in after 3000 miles. this car will still do around 150mph(with chip and a few other mods). i guess the term "high mileage is all dependent upon what type of car you have.

168,000 miles on a 1988 750il - engine seems as strong as an Ox, it's still smooth and quiet and doesn't use any oil. Body and paint is very good and interior is excellent.

I'm also very interested in results - since it is old enough to start needing numerous repairs and replacement parts - I'd hate to "fix it up" and then have engine come apart but I guess that is the risk you always take. IMHO I can't see the engine wearing out if maintained well, driven sanely, and never overheated for up to 300k miles. But I could be an optimist and dead wrong. Since engine has been in use since 1988(only 12 years or less) most examples seem to be in the low to mid 100k miles. So not a lot of real evidence on which to base longevity.
