The control arms have a bushing at one end and a ball-joint at the other end. The ball-joint is not replaceable without replacing the complete control arm. Since the bushing wears with mileage/age, the ball-joint also wears with mileage/age, but to a lesser degree. If the front end work requires removal of the strut, this is an ideal opportunity to also replace the thrust arm and the lower control arm since both are connected to the bottom of the strut via the steering arm.

not just the control arm bushings? The control arms are made of some type of metal...so does the metal fatigue and fail? Just curious.
