Screws up the system from the peak loads the coil and switching thyristors have to deal with in the ECU... Some systems also have fancy feedback curcuits to sense the current flow curve going down into the coils and so adjust advancement of the appliaction of power / duration of power applied to the coil...

Multi-electrode plugs are also "interesting" in that if you consider each spark to be a resistance to be overcome, they have N (usually 4) in paralell - so at full spark approx 4 times the power dissipation of a normal plug as far as the coil is concerned. The coil can only supply a spark on the leading edge of the DC voltage supplied to it, so a multi-electrode plug can end up with N times the intensity for 1/Nth the time....

Lots of nice things to think about. I like cheap plugs and have an M30 with them out in the open, so I'll be a KISS guy. YMMV as I'd expect.

Cheers.

The more uniform the spark the better. How in the world could this screw up your ignition system, or the OBC?

You must have been talking to a Chevy mechanic.
