M60 Oil Separator R&R (archive)

How hard is it to replace the oil separator (cyclone separator) on the V8? It sits on the back of the intake manifold and seems to really be a complex PCV system. Evidently the part is only about $50-$75 but labor is quoted at 2-2.5 hours.

Any experience on this one?

My local independant says to just move the coolant reservoir out of the way (I have a 530i but felt someone here could help as the E34 list was stumped), and to use a ratchet with a torx-head adapter to remove the mounting screws. However, another fellow says "NO WAY". You have to remove the whole intake manifold to get it out.

What is the real story??

The Bentley manual, as usual, has no info on this.

TIA
