Is it easy to get under the car to replace pins (archive)

I was wandering is it difficult to get under the car to replace the pins I am thinking about doing it today
my 5 speed stick shift first started to feel a little sponge the all of a sudden it just got really loose and now It will not go into gear does anyone know what the problem could be?
