You have to stop the car and pump the brake pedal about 10 times so it gets hard. This will raise the fluid in your reservoir to its high level. Now top it off to about .5" below brim.
You probably overfilled it the last time causing fluid to leak out and onto something hot causing the smell. Overflow fluid could also set the reservoir alarm off too. Not sure where the sensor is off my head but it should be easy to see.Also...Brake light indicator could mean light bulbs while break pressure could mean a decrease in fluid or a leak at your booster. Check/trace for leaking fluids around all the hoses and connection points.
Can someone please tell me how to add power steering fluid? I have added some, but my light keeps coming on. I made a trip this weekend (925 miles) and when I stopped to check the oil, I thought I smelled some of it? It was also smoking a little next to where you fill it?? Help making a long trip in a few hours, by the way it is a 88 750il. Thanks!!!
