Regarding your 'dipping' mirror - in my '88 750iL this function is turned on/of by the position of the mirror adjustment selector switch. If the selector is set to adjust the driver's mirror, the passenger mirror is free to 'dip'. If it set to adjust the passenger mirror, it will not dip. Hopefully it is that simple in your case.

Congratulations BTW on your purchase. I have had mine 7 months now and although I have exercised a few choice swear words during that time, the smile is still firmly attached!!

...the right mirror does NOT dip on reverse but that's about the only "fault" I could find.
